By Maggie Fox CNN. Research has not yet shown how long you are protected from getting COVID-19 again after you recover from COVID-19. The ongoing study which has yet to be peer-reviewed shows that the PfizerBioNTech vaccine was overall 91 percent effective at preventing COVID-19 infection over the course of six months. That same month Pfizer reported that its vaccine was still highly effective at six months. According to the CDC full protection occurs two weeks after the second dose of the Pfizer-BioNTech or Moderna COVID-19 vaccines or two weeks after the single-dose Johnson Johnson vaccine. Before day 11 vaccination offers very little protection.
Research suggests that the Pfizer vaccine will offer protection for 6 months.
Because the Johnson Johnson JJ adenovirus-vector vaccine was launched later than the other two six-month efficacy results are not yet available. How long the JJ and Moderna vaccines will protect against COVID-19 is currently unknown. The CDC reports JJJanssen vaccine was 663 effective in clinical trials at preventing COVID-19 illness in people who had no evidence of prior infection 2 weeks after receiving the vaccine.
